Monster Advert Evaluation

In this post i will be evaluating the stop-motion animation for the monster energy drink advertisement.

Firstly i will be talking about the preparation that went into this very short one minuet animation for the Monster energy drink advertising campaign. Production on this animation began with the idea of making rival energy drink companies fight due to the fact that Rock-star energy's sales have lacked over the last few months and monsters have risen. Also due to bad media coverage due to an incident at the factory that produces monster i decided to make a battle sequence as both companies are rivals.

The idea began with a simple sequence with the Rock-star company playing dirty in order to destroy monster and then later monster getting pay back. However to create tension through inanimate objects its very difficult. Also with the small work space that i had available i was not able to spill the drinks  to simulate the idea of blood leaking from the can like it would if a human had cracked there head.

So due to this health and safety issue i decided to take a camera home and create the scenes in my home kitchen. Unfortunately i did not have a tri-pod or a steady hand therefore the outcome became very shaky as you can see in the video furthermore the video seemed rushed as the length and the production value is lacking. This animation was filmed with in a day and took up to an hour to make.

To get a better response from my audience i created a survey which i sent out to a few people and below shows there collective responses.

I have read the mixed reviews and have indicated that the audience liked the animation due to the small bits of comedy that were in the animation and also the fact the plot was basic and easy to follow; However the improvements that could be made would be a steady camera and also some emotion into the characters themselves to appeal to the audience more. Below i will explain what i think about the animation.

I think the result of the animation is amateur due to the shaky camera and lack of story to the animation many things could be improved in this animation,For example multiple objects. If there was more than one enemy in this animation such as other energy drinks it would give the animation more variety to the audience.
Furthermore if the objects themselves had voices or just some googly eyes it would represent more emotion which would give the animation more flare to it as the object could show feeling and this could lead to many out comes in genre such as comedy, action or even horror.

On the other hand one thing i did enjoy about this animation was the music. In this animation the music was key as it helped the audience figure out the story to what was going on the music help differ the protagonist and the villian through the use of action and music. However going back to what i said before if the use of voices or sound effects were used this would give the animation more drama and even a linear story to follow over the course of a short one minuet advert.

In conclusion the stop-motion animation wasn't as nearly as good as it could of been due to the shaky camera and short length story. It needs vast improvements in terms of plot and characters as well as realism. However the use of music and slowing and the timing in which it switched to a different scene was impressive. a mediocre piece of work that needs much improvement for it to be suitable for an advertisement.

Thank you very much and please check out the video again if you desire.

League Fighter 2 Evaluation

League Fighter 2 Evaluation

in this post i will be evaluating the simple 2D animation known as league fighter two an advertisement for a non-existent video game and a promotion for the SONY PSP.

The production that went into league fighter two was a long and thought out process first taking images of a model on a white background then taking those files into adobe photoshop.
After which the models where scaled down to A4 size paper they were then cut out and put into alignment as each once had a different movement or action to simulate combat.

Other things such as life-bars,titles and digital vectors were made using photoshop once again to simulate the effect that many video games depict in the game play you see. I wanted the game play to look real enough to get the point across that this was in-fact a video game spoof to give the animation some background on what was being promoted.

Each figure was moved piece by piece to represent movement and action over the course of a few weeks the animation was done and the sequence was complete. Using voices provided to me by actors the lines were put in to give the animation some realism.Furthermore with the use of arcade music and titles the animation looked like a working advert.

Finally added to give the animation the drive it needed i recorded a review on an old Sony device known as the PSP. with the use of voice over and pitch change i made the voices promoting the game and showing the PSP different to show what the advert was representing.

Using other gameplay footage from old arcade machines such as Mortal Kombat & Street fighter i was able to get a general feel on what i hoped the animation could immate. Below are two videos on the animation of the two games previously mentioned.

As you can see in the two clips above each game had an opening screen in which you select your character by using the controls to do some i wanted to mimic as unique as i could by using a few basic photos of characters and simple shapes it was a simple thing to do.

Compared to the to the other two clips i have previously shown i would say the work that is shown is a decent turn out, So much more could be done with the animation but resources were lacking if the animation had some more colour to it such as different scenery. you can see in both clips that in each stage of the fight that the scenery often changes as-well as the music this creates a different feel each time.

Furthermore some scenes in the two clips show special attacks and a variety of effects such as blood, impalement or just simple fire. If time was taken to add these few things then the animation would of been up to perfect condition,

I wanted to expand my audiences reviews so i created a survey with basic questions and added there feedback to get a better response below shows the feedback.

As you can see the animation got similar reviews and a positive response as the video was both entertaining and met its purpose. However more variety in characters and better sound quality is needed.

However the positive things about the animation that i liked was the use of sound effects and how the figures were able to show pain and reaction with the ability of falling down and moving away it made the match have a little intensity which worked well. The frame rate was to fast however if more time was taken to make them move not as fast it would make the animation look more believable.

The voice acting was spot on and deserved operation as well as the footage of the SONY PSP and the timing in which it switched from animation to real time footage was spot on making this feel like a promotion for proper gamers.

The figures used in this were of a decent age for people who often play games in this generation. However adding the old 80,s arcade music gives it the feel that the game is retro appealing to people of varying ages from age ten to age thirty and upwards.

In conclusion the animation is a decent effort but needed much work to be added to it to make it look amazing. with the use of more figures, backgrounds and smoother frame rate the animation will of made a much more appealing advertisement for gaming as it would look more realistic. However the use of music and the emotion used in the characters corresponds well with the PSP footage. A good piece of work and well thought out.

Thank very much for reading this evaluation.
